I just spent $226.12 for groceries—for ONE WEEK! For TWO PEOPLE (plus a grandchild who hangs out a few days a week).
I didn’t buy a lot of extras.
Well, I did buy some holiday springtime clings for the granddaughter to stick to my sliding door, but other than that, it was mostly food and a few cleaning products.
I bought a dozen eggs (and we all know these are at a premium these days!) at $6.99 for a dozen brown ones.
I was surprised, however, by the cost of milk–$5.29 for just short of a half-gallon of 2%. Admittedly, I do buy Fairlife, but this is the most I have paid for it in quite a while. Typically, it hovers around $4.
I bought ground turkey breast, some beef stew cubes and a few pouches of tuna (I have chicken in the freezer for the other meals I planned for this week).
Even the cost of yogurt seems to be up this week, at $1.89 per package.
I’m lucky. I had grocery money set aside and although it exceeded what I planned to spend, we’ll be OK.
But what about families with multiple kids?
I remember the days of raising my family and I religiously clipped coupons and shopped multiple stores for the best deal. Those were the best of times and the worst of times!
Maybe I’ll go back to that model.
What about you? What are your secrets for surviving in these crazy inflation times?
